A Few Questions with Court of the Grandchildren Director Jason Williams

Court of the Grandchildren opens April 8, 2022!  In this production, it’s 2051, the older generation that accelerated climate change is being brought to trial. And climate activist Lily thinks she has it all figured out. Until she meets her great uncle, David, who changes her perspective completely. He’s a man from today. She’s a woman from tomorrow. How will she judge him?

We reached out to director Jason Williams to find out more about him and his experience working on this production.

1. What do you imagine 2051 will be like compared to how it's portrayed in the script?

I think it will be different in ways we can't possibly imagine. Even ten years age it would have been difficult to predict how the smart phone would change our world. I hope tinks progress for the better, but that's uncertain. I hope we grow more accepting of each other.

2. Do you love or hate AI and "technology"? Why?

Marx said we need to embrace technology to unlock the full potential of the human. I am not weary of technology, but I am suspicious of that technology being used to manipulate and divide us. Plus I am ashamed I can't remember my friends’ phone numbers anymore.

3. How did you get into theatre?

By accident. I had entered college with the idea of pursuing Engineering, but after my struggle with Calculus II, I rethought my ideas. I was kind of rudderless for a semester so I took an acting course. That is where my love for theatre was born.

4. Do you have any upcoming projects that we should check out?

I will be directing The Little Prince for Montford Park Players. That will open in June.
