Meet Christine Caldemeyer, she is joining us for our next production of In the Middle of Nowhere written by Bret Murphy and directed by Katie Jones!
This production is about Cynthia Scott is a retired art professor who escapes to the Black Mountains of North Carolina after a harrowing experience in her "previous" life. Despite her fiercely independent nature, she eventually forms a relationship with Del, a young man who has recently been released from prison. They challenge each other in unexpected ways... but the question remains, will either of them accept forgiveness?
We reached out to Christine to tell us a bit about herself and about what her experience has been like working on this production!
1. Do you enjoy hiking, camping, or otherwise being in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the outdoors? If so, why?
Yes, absolutely. There is a quiet that civilized living can’t give you. Technology is a wonderful thing, and I couldn’t give it up completely, but being out in the deep woods, where not even the sound of passing cars can be heard, offers a chance to set aside my worries for a moment. There is a gift in the way a cliff side can make you feel small, or the sound of a river can wash your mind clean.
2. How did you get into theatre?
Early, though Shakespeare. Both of my parents are musicians, so I was exposed early to the performing arts.
3. What, in your opinion, is the difference between religion and spirituality?
To me, Religion is dogma, or rules-centric, cultivating a manicured system over years of practice and meditation. Spirituality is felt from a place of active receptivity, a reciprocal cycle of experience, introspection, and conscious action.
