An Interview with Midsummer for Haters Actor Molly Graves

Midsummer for Haters is showing June 3-18, 2022! In this collaboration with Nemesis Theatre Company, Shakespeare’s beloved classic gets a new treatment by the people who can’t stand it, resulting in a kidnapped Amazon, mystified mortals, sadistic fairies, and mechanicals gone wild! Will any of them survive four nights in the magic forest?

We reached out to actor Molly Graves to find out more about her and her experience working on this unique production!

What do you hate about Midsummer?

Mostly Theseus, which is kind of funny, as I play him in one version. The lovers' scenes are usually super irritating too, but this one is different...

What’s your favorite scene in this show? Why?

All of ‘em - have you seen this cast???

How is working with The Magnetic different from working with other theatres?

Working with Magnetic is great! as an actor, I feel supported and encouraged. And somehow, they make it feel mostly professional AND like an awesome-weird-family party.

How is working with Nemesis different from working with other theatre companies?

I love working with Nemesis. Melon is so committed to creating work that is approachable and accessible to both actors and audience. It makes me happy to be part of good storytelling.

How do you feel about not knowing which version of the show you're doing until Egeus says his first line?

I LOVE it!!! (Maybe ask me again four minutes before curtain on opening night).
