Caroling by Gaslight opens on December 2nd, 2022! Everyone knows the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the tightfisted old miser. But if you thought he was bad, wait until you get a load of his neighbors. Find out what really happened that fateful night in this hilariously devious R-rated retelling of the Charles Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol.
We reached out to Jenni Robinson to find out more about her and her experience working on this production!
What is your favorite or least favorite holiday season tradition and why?
My favorite holiday tradition is listening to a recording of author Neil Gaiman reading A Christmas Carol. We curl up by the tree with hot beverages and listen to our favorite ghost story.
Do you relate to your character or to any character in the show? How similar / different are you?
She’s the worst parts of me unfiltered and unedited, it takes courage to be a foul human and I don’t know that I’m that brave.
What's your favorite line in the show? Why?
Bobert, May I call you bobert. I can’t keep a straight face when Emily says it…
What is your favorite version of A Christmas Carol (film / TV / stage)?
George C. Scott, classic.
What are your favorite non-traditional holiday season activities?
Fire pit.
How did you get into theatre?
I sang in musicals and one day they cast me in a play.
How is working with The Magnetic different from working with other theatres?
Workshop of new plays, new characters, and new experiences. Art changes rapidly and with Magnetic I have the opportunity to be part of the process instead of copying or rote memorization of characters we already know in shows we’ve already seen.
There's a lot of talk about gruel and gin in this play... What is your favorite dish to cook (or eat) during the holiday season? Feel free to share a recipe and/or anecdote if you'd like!
Apple whiskey, pressed Apple cider, and sliced oranges in a pot, instant cheer that warms even Scrooge’s heart and much easier to make than a smoking bishop.
Biography
Jenni is happy to be back on the Magnetic Stage where she is always cast as characters that use large amounts of profanity. Demure and shy by nature, she last cursed it out here as Rhonda in The Caro Savanti experience and as Aspen in Brief encounters. No stranger to squirting audiences with fluids, you might have been splashed during her performance as the Nurse in Anam Cara’s Titus or from her enthusiastic o face as Ms. Saunders/Betty in Cloud 9. She thanks her writer Skylar for making Christmas Carol dirty again like good ol’ Dick(ins) intended.
Caroling by Gaslight is showing at The Magnetic Theatre in Asheville, NC December 2-17, 2022. Grab your tickets here: https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=132413
