A Few Questions with No More Waiting Actor William Commerford

No More Waiting is a show devised by the ensemble as part of The Cathedral of All Souls' Third Annual Lenten Arts Series showing on Sunday, April 3 at 4:00pm.

Every worker in this country will experience struggles within our capitalistic system. But what does it take to change that? Inspired by the Great Resignation Movement and recent worker strikes, experience stories of people who share one thing in common: a desire to see a kind and empathic workplace environment.

We reached out to William Commerford, a part of the ensemble to find out more about him and his experience working on this production.

1. What do you think audiences will be thinking about on the way home from this performance?

What I can hope for audiences to get out of this performance is that inspiring and cathartic discovery/rediscovery that we're all in this together in at least one way, shape,  and or form.

2. Do you feel that this performance is important given today’s social climate? Why?

It certainly is relevant and yet timeless in a way. The topics that circle around this show as well as the great resignation that inspired it deal with inequality, courage to take action, the fear and dependency that can hold us back from taking those actions, the fear of change verses the need for it.

3. How did you get into theatre?

When I was in eighth grade I decided to audition for my upcoming high school's drama program. I did this thinking it would have me be less of a goofy guy in class because I would be able to channel all of my nonsense into acting. This wasn't the case per se but with theatre, I had found something I could effortlessly take seriously. I was in denial of how important it was to me until I transferred high schools and I met my mentor and friend Michael Naffziger. I was at a time in my life when I did not have the tools nor the know-how to believe in myself. He lifted that burden off of my shoulder and did it for me. Which encouraged me and continues to encourage me to not only believe in myself but to also trust and cherish the art that resides in my heart as well.

4. How is working with The Magnetic different from working with other theatres?

So far the main difference is the diverse age range. I've either worked with people my age or with people much older than me. I think it's really neat seeing people of different ages and generations coming together to put on a show.

5. Do you have any upcoming projects that we should check out?

None that I'm currently aware of at the moment. But I hope that this project can get my foot in the door when it comes to future projects and collaborations.
