A Few Questions with Algorithm & Blues: A Dating Sketch Show Actor Emily Tucker

Algorithm & Blues: A Dating Sketch Show opens March 4th, 2022! This show will be an uproarious evening poking fun at the trials and tribulations of modern dating, featuring live music, bad date stories, and dancing Yentas!

We reached out to Emily with a few questions about herself and her experience working on this production.

1. Share your best or worst date experience!

Best: We bought coffee and did laps around a bookstore. You can tell a lot about someone from the books they reach for.

Worst: I met someone for a drink and after seven minutes of him talking I sent my best friend our code word via text. He immediately called with an "emergency" and I left half a beer sitting on the bar.

2. Do you relate to any of your characters or to any character in the show? How similar / different are you?

I feel a deep connection to Pearl, my character in Senior Games. She is my inner old lady, she loves her peaceful arts and crafts but she can also get down and dirty when needed.

3. What's your favorite line in the show? Why?

"Oh, that. Well if I can't hear, you see...I don't have to participate in the conversations that bore me." I feel like that is self-explanatory.

4. What are the top 5 songs on your date night playlist?

1. Leave the Door Open - Silk Sonic

2. Keep on Loving You - Cigarettes After Sex

3. Closer - Teegan and Sara

4. Best Part - H.E.R (feat Daniel Caesar)

5. More of You - Mozella

5. What's your favorite sketch comedy show / podcast / local group?

Always love SNL and Key and Peele

6. What are your go-to first date (or date night) plans?

Coffee, dinner, something casual and quiet so you can talk. I love movies but they are for a second date. But please don't ask me to go to a bar where I have to scream a conversation.

7. How did you get into theatre?

Started young, loved playing make believe, realized that in a way acting was just continuing my childhood games. For a few hours I get to be a completely different person and inhabit a completely different world. It's a nice escape.

8. How is working with The Magnetic different from working with other theatres?

Working at the Magnetic has given me the opportunity to do more works of local authors, which I love. It's always great to be reminded how ridiculously talented our community is.

9. What's your favorite type of apple?

Fruit or Computer? Honeycrisps are my favorite, or if we are talking tech I think I prefer my Macbook to my iPhone

10. Do you have any upcoming projects that we should check out?

Court of the Grandchildren, also with Magnetic!
