A Few Questions with Court of the Grandchildren Actor Morgan Miller

Court of the Grandchildren opens April 8, 2022! In this production, it’s 2051, the older generation that accelerated climate change is being brought to trial. And climate activist Lily thinks she has it all figured out. Until she meets her great uncle, David, who changes her perspective completely. He’s a man from today. She’s a woman from tomorrow. How will she judge him?

We reached out to actor Morgan Miller to find out more about her and her experience working on this production.

1. What do you imagine 2051 will be like compared to how it's portrayed in the script?

I imagine it would be slightly less futuristic, as far as the technological advances but Otherwise I feel that it will be pretty similar.

2. Do you relate to your character or to any character in the show? How similar / different are you?

I feel like I really relate to Lilly in many ways. I find that our Personalities are very similar in the way she reacts. Family is very important to her and it is to me as well. I also currently work at the housing authority as an eligibility specialist, which feels very similar in some ways to her position working with Refugees.

3. What's your favorite line in the show? Why?

“That’s how it starts the lines get blurred and before you know it, you’re treating humans like androids” I think it’s incredibly important to treat everyone with respect no matter who (or what) they are and I’m sure in the future that would be a huge issue. It’s just another way that Lilly is standing up for what she believes in so strongly.

4. What are the top 5 songs on your current "opening night" playlist?

“You Make My Dreams ” Hall and Oats

“Hooked on a Feeling” Blue Swede

Anything Beatles

“Rich Girl” Lake Street Dive Cover

“Sugar Town” Nancy Sinatra

5. Do you have any rituals you follow when rehearsing for or performing in a show?

Never-ending deep dive into the script. Working physically by writing all of my lines and scenes out in order to memorize and breakdown my intentions. Physically when coming in to perform, I like to listen to music while getting ready and warming up to help get into character.

6. Do you love or hate AI and "technology"? Why?

I don’t hate AI but I am not comfortable with the idea of how easy it could be for AI to get out of control. I think that Human Nature can be detrimentally ambitious at times unfortunately and the ways AI could potentially negatively impact us and the Earth if it were to reach an out of control point, are numerous.

7. How did you get into theatre?

I’ve always loved to perform for family growing up, especially singing but when I went to High School, I was accepted into a Magnet school and was in the Theatre program and from there, it really ignited my love of performing and opened me up to the world of Acting as a career.

8. How is working with The Magnetic different from working with other theatres?

So far, it’s been the most open Theatre that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with that work head on to address difficult and sensitive topics that very much need to be discussed and it is done in such an incredibly open and respectful way so that all parties are heard. I also love the Collaboration from many different outlets as well. I am so impressed!

9. Do you have any upcoming projects that we should check out?

I’ll be performing in a New Classics Cabaret at HART March 4th-6th and 11th-13th. I will also be in The Adventures of Robin Hood as Deorwynn at Parkway Playhouse July 30th- August 13th.
