A Few Questions with No More Waiting Actor Hannah Williams

No More Waiting is a show devised by the ensemble as part of The Cathedral of All Souls' Third Annual Lenten Arts Series showing on Sunday, April 3 at 4:00pm.

Every worker in this country will experience struggles within our capitalistic system. But what does it take to change that? Inspired by the Great Resignation Movement and recent worker strikes, experience stories of people who share one thing in common: a desire to see a kind and empathic workplace environment.

We reached out to Hannah Williams, a part of the ensemble to find out more about her and her experience working on this production.

1. What do you think audiences will be thinking about on the way home from this performance?

I hope this performance will open audience's minds to some of the continuing problems facing the modern day worker and how those problems have persisted through time.

2. Do you feel that this performance is important given today’s social climate? Why?

This performance is especially important to today's social climate. Working on a new, devised piece provides so much to dig into right now. The climate is quickly shifting and we're lucky to be able to shift with it. I think this performance offers a reflection of some experiences of people currently struggling in the workforce and how that's challenging other aspects of their lives.

3. How did you get into theatre?

I got into theatre when I was probably three years old. I grew up in a very musical household, and my father would frequently run sound for musicals at my local high school. He would take me with him to sit in the booth. I remember being very small and watching the director give notes during tech rehearsals, and all I wanted was to be involved in the production so I too could get notes and create something so exciting.

4. How is working with The Magnetic different from working with other theatres?

The Magnetic is absolutely one of my favorite theatres in the area because it fosters so much new talent and new work. The Magnetic feels like a place where any idea is safe to be heard and workshopped out into something thrilling.

5. Do you have any upcoming projects that we should check out?

Yes! I'll be performing in The Frankenstein Rubrics later in the Magnetic season. This summer, I'm producing an arts festival in Raleigh with The National Women's Theatre Festival centering around gender parity and equitable representation in theatre. As part of that festival, I'm producing a new piece about reproductive justice and the journey of motherhood, The Momversations Project. I also have the honor of directing In the Middle of Nowhere, seen last season on the Magnetic stage, at Parkway Playhouse at the end of August.
