A Few Questions with Starbright Dramaturg Skyler Goff

Starbright is showing at The Magnetic Theatre in Asheville, NC July 8 - 23, 2022!

Starbright is the story of Grace, an astrophysicist who lost her daughter Abby nearly a year ago. As Grace's life spins out of control, Abby appears to her and begins making predictions about the cosmos. Grace must determine if her daughter's appearance is a sign of her dwindling sanity, or proof that there's more to the universe than even she understands.

We reached out to Skyler Goff, our dramaturg for this production to find out more about himself and his experience working on this production.

1. Do you believe connecting with those who have passed is possible?

Absolutely. We are beings of energy and our imprint is left when we pass, either in the minds of others, actions, or legacies. The connections we make with people when they are alive is glorious. Though there is something stronger about the connection you have with someone who died hundreds of years ago and never knew personally. A phrase, a piece of art, an act...despite never knowing who did it can have a major impact on ones life.

2. How did you get into theatre?

I discovered theatre in high school as a way to finally be someone other than myself. I've been doing that ever since...leaving me with a sense of not really knowing my true self but knowing a lot about smaller parts of myself.

3. How is working with The Magnetic different from working with other theatres?

Magnetic respects their team from beginning to end. Never have I felt unsafe or disrespected with The Magnetic.

4. Do you believe there is more out there than what we currently comprehend?

Absolutely. If not, then thus far I'm not impressed.

5. Do you have any upcoming projects that we should check out?

Caroling by Gaslight is a new play I am working on that puts the 'D' and 'ick' in Dickens.
